BODØ
Seeing is Believing.
Bodø combines the experience of life above the Arctic Circle together with a thriving cultural life, the most exciting nature has to offer, and a successful business, research and education sector that includes the Norwegian Centres of Expertise (NCE) Aquaculture located at the Innovation Park in this thriving city.
Education and Research are well represented here, with the University of Nordland a center point of an active academia with over 5,000 students on both the undergraduate and graduate level. University of Nordland is also part of the University of the Arctic, an international cooperative network based in the circumpolar region dedicated to furthering the understanding of the north and bringing together top levels of education and research in preparing for the changes that are coming in the Arctic region.
The Mountains and the Sea
The region surrounding Bodø is active, with almost half of the population of northern Norway being situated here. There is good reason for this, as the climate is surprisingly mild considering its far north location. Winters are chilly, but there is seldom snowfall that lies on the ground for any period of time and rain is the more common precipitation. But the neighboring mountains and highlands are always available for winter sport enthusiasts.
The Aquaculture Cluster
Since the 1970´s the aquaculture cluster along the coast of this region has been key in creation of one of Norway’s most important export industries. With its close proximity to the sea, the region is the logical home to the leading cluster in the country dedicated to value creation and innovation associated with commercial production of farmed fish and seafood for the global market. NCE Aquaculture represents the industry with strong expertise and proud traditions - leaders the production of fry and edible fish, processing, feed production, technology, health and environment, finance, research and training. A Lifestyle to be Experienced
The region is a haven for tourists from all over Norway and beyond, as the gateway to the Lofoten peninsula and islands, and awarded UNESCO World Heritage status. Bodø is at the center of nature that has to be experienced. With the most beautiful beaches imaginable – crystalline white sand dropping gently towards the glacial turquoise ocean – that contrast with the extreme of the world’s strongest tidal current at Saltstraumen, all options are imaginable here.
Most of all, Bodø is a lifestyle to be experienced. Perhaps you will experience a classical concert on a rooftop in the city looking out towards a summer sun that will never set. Or decide to stay and study, or to pursue a career here. Bodø is not to be missed. Put it on your list, and see you soon.
