FJORD NORWAY
Simply the Best

Anywhere on the planet, the simple phrase “Fjords of Norway” brings to mind nature at its most spectacular. With the city of Bergen as “the Capital City of the Fjords”, the Fjord Norway region embraces the country’s west coast from Egersund to Kristiansund and includes the four counties Rogaland, Hordaland, Sogn og fjordane and Møre og Romsdal.

According to National Geographic Traveller, Fjord Norway is the world’s top rated destination in the “Destination Stewardship” awards – for the second time in just six years. Official UNESCO World Heritage attractions include the finest fjord landscapes of Geiranger and Nærøy, the 1,000 year old wharf (“Bryggen”) in Bergen, and the oldest stave church in the world, located at Luster.

A Playground for All
Events and cultural attractions abound here, many of them having roots in the rich Viking traditions, with the region offering a wide range of attractions and sites that include festivals, exhibitions, fjord cruises, historical sites and buildings  - and the living example of the unique and beautiful craftsmanship created by the people living here.

The local people are friendly and helpful to those visiting the region, providing information (and guides as needed) for canoeing, kayaking, all-year round skiing, diving, sailing – and of course hiking and climbing the many mountains. It is here in western Norway where mountaineering began 150 years ago – and in this country of mountains some of those most memorable peaks are here in the Fjord Norway region.

Finding your Way

Visitors and residents alike take great satisfaction in exploring the region, choosing the level of activity and difficulty based on their own personal experience. Information is readily available with five major National Park Visitors Centres in the Fjord Norway region, and visitors easily can make their plans and experience a trip of a lifetime.

The road network here is excellent, and the boat and ferry services make for a pleasant adventure where many of the world’s highest waterfalls, most spectacular glaciers and deepest valleys will literally take your breath away. Nearly half of the world’s highest waterfalls are located here in Norway, and the majority of those find a home on the steep mountainsides here in the west. The country is well-known for its glaciers – and over half are found in Fjord Norway.

A Wealth of Choices
Many business travelers, students, and tourists begin their Fjord Norway experience with the city of Bergen as their start point for exploring the region, but other thriving cities and towns in Fjord Norway including Alesund, Kristiansund, Molde and Egersund also allow for a wealth of choices.  Often the spectacular wonders of nature attract visitors to this region – but once they discover the business, cultural and educational choices and opportunities here – visitors very often choose to stay.
