MID NORWAY
Waiting for you – The Trondheim Region

Divided into two “counties”, the Trondheim Region – Trøndelag – is waiting for you.  North Trøndelag and South Trøndelag are rich in history, tradition, tourist opportunities, business success and populated by interesting and friendly local people.

Statistically, South Trøndelag has nearly ten times the population of the north – due to the major city in Mid Norway – the city of Trondheim. Each of the counties have their own unique personalities, proud to be known as “Trøndere”, their unique dialects – and not in the least, fanatic supporters of their football  (soccer) team Rosenborg BK – the most successful sports team ever in the history of the country.

Trondheim – Your Way of Life

The city of Trondheim is by far the largest in the region – a city known for its successful business environment, rich cultural life and outdoor recreational activities that are limited only the imagination - the ideal balance of a friendly city with the advantage of the best of academia, research and business combined with a well-educated population. The organization Visit Trondheim will help you in getting to know this dynamic city.

The city offers the best and the brightest within education and research, internationally known for the SINTEF Group, the largest independent research organization in Scandinavia, as well as the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. The city is a destination for those doing business and attending the many major events here – but also as a kick-off point to go out an discover the wonderland of nature that is found in North and South Trøndelag.

Historic & Creative

Aside from the stimulating city of Trondheim, there is a lot to see and down in South Trøndelag including the historic and fascinating town of Røros. This old mining town has made the successful transition to a creative culture that in many ways is unique in Scandinavia. The center of the town is listed on the UNESCO World Heritage list, and work is ongoing in extending the area covered by the Heritage List to cover a greater part of this charming place.
Visit Røros here.

Far up in the Valley

Oppdal is a small town in the Dovre region located at the far northern part of Gudbrandsdalen – a valley that if followed far enough south will take you to the Olympic city of Lillehammer. Here in Oppdal you can experience nature at its best – great skiing in the winter, and in the warmer months a wide range of activities out in nature. This is not a new town – the earliest settler came almost 1,500 years ago and it has traditionally been an important crossroads during the religious pilgrimages to Trondheim from the European continent. Take a closer look at Oppdal right here.

The Friendly North
In North Trøndelag, the relatively small population of approximately 25,000 will welcome you with open arms as you explore the county seat of Steinkjer or Levanger. Fish for salmon in the legendary Namsen River – just ask any fishermen who know salmon and they will tell you so. Nature and people meet – and get to know each other well – in North Trøndelag!

Discover Trøndelag

Perhaps the best place to start when exploring the possibilities in Trøndelag is Discover Trondelag, a website that will help you get to know the region well long before you set your foot down here. Here you can learn about its history, culture, activities and what is happening as well as what you will want to do when you arrive here.
